Fishing

Grand Superior Lodge sits on the shore of the largest freshwater lake in the world and within a few miles of trout streams and rivers and inland walleye lakes. Four state record fish - Atlantic Salmon, Chinook Salmon, Coho Salmon, and Brown Trout - have been caught within 20 miles. So yes, you could say fishing is good at Grand Superior.

Folks with their own boats can put in to Lake Superior at Burlington Bay & Agate Bay in Two Harbors (8 miles south), at Twin Points (5 miles north) and at the Silver Bay Marina (22 miles north). Popular inland lakes with public access include Stewart, Sullivan and Greenwood Lakes, each subsequently further north of Two Harbors.

Don't have a boat? Join up with a charter fishing boat at Knife River or Silver Bay Marina to fish the big lake, or try river fishing. Nearby trout streams include Castle Danger Creek, Crow Creek, Encampment River, Gooseberry River, Silver Creek, Split Rock River, Stewart River and Twin Points Creek. The DNR maintains a Lake Superior fishing pier at Twin Points Wayside (5 miles north) and inland fishing decks on Dumbbell and Hogback lakes, near Tettegouche State Park. Just remember a long-handled net!

And here is something unique to our Splashing Rock Restaurant – bring in your own catch and have our chef prepare and serve it to you. Now that's a memory that will last a lifetime!

And if all else fails, stop by Lou's Fish House in Two Harbors or Russ Kendall's Smoked Fish House in Knife River on Scenic 61 and purchase some locally smoked, and darned tasty, fish! The local supermarket occasionally has fresh fish, too.
